4-day ‘Art Escape’ offered at Toledo museum

Wrap up the year with a variety of art experiences during the Toledo Museum of Art’s great Art Escape. The four-day event kicks off Tuesday and runs through Dec. 31. Guests can stroll the museum sampling art at their own pace, including storytelling, drawing instruction, glass demonstrations, and live performances. This season’s special exhibitions include The Egypt Experience and Small Worlds. The event is free, but tickets are required for the Egypt Experience and parking is $5.

On Tuesday, Family Center activities will begin at 10 a.m. Storytelling begins at 10:30 and the Toledo Ballet will begin mini-performances at noon. Ardan Academy Irish Dancers will perform at 12:30 p.m. and glass demonstrations will begin at 1, 2, and 3 p.m.

On Wednesday, there will be drawing in various galleries, beginning at 10:30 a.m. Susan Craig will offer live music when she plays the Dutch organ at noon. Glass demonstrations will begin at 1, 2 and 3 p.m.

Dec. 29 will bring Family Center activities at 10 a.m. followed by storytelling at 10:30 a.m. and live music at noon by Gladys Rudolph on the Dutch organ. Joy Turner will play the Castle piano at 2 p.m. and glass demonstrations will begin at 1, 2, and 3 p.m. Activities for Dec. 30 include drawing in the galleries, starting at 10:30 a.m., Hindu dancers at noon, the Chinese Association of Greater Toledo at 3 p.m., and a performance by Musica Antigua at 7 p.m. Glass demonstrations will begin at 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, and 9 p.m.

The great Art Escape will wrap up on New Year’s Eve with glass demonstrations at 1, 2, and 3 p.m., a belly-dancing performance by Leyla and the Chinese Association of Greater Toledo at 1:30 p.m. For more information call 419-255-8000.

The Children’s Wonderland continues in Sylvania, with lots of family-friendly holiday activities. Guests can shop and eat, while children can decorate ornaments, write letters to Santa, play putt-putt golf, and have their faces painted. The event runs 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Christmas Eve, and is closed on Christmas Day. Children’s Wonderland will reopen Monday and run through Dec. 29. Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for children ages 3 through 12. Admission for seniors is $2 and children under 2 are admitted free.
